Euro Truck Simulator 2 has long been one of the first games that comes to mind when talking about truck driving simulation. Thanks to its realistic physics engine, detailed map designs, and continuous updates, ETS2 offers players a long-term experience. Now, this experience is being taken one step further. SCS Software officially announced that a bus mode will be added to the game. This new mode, called "Project Coaches", will not only include buses, but also focus on bus stops and passenger transport experience.
The new mode offers players a brand-new role beyond classic truck transportation: bus driving. The game's developer, SCS Software, stated that the mode is still in development but some important information can now be shared.
In its first phase, the Project Coaches mode will include three major bus brands: Scania, Volvo, and MAN. Thanks to this mode, which players have been waiting for years, they will now be able to embark on city and intercity journeys filled with passengers, not just transport cargo. The inclusion of a double-decker bus by Volvo suggests that this mode will be quite ambitious in terms of visuals and experience.
The mode not only offers a variety of vehicles but also includes improvements to bus stops on the map. These updates cover both intercity terminals and local bus stops. The development team aims to provide a smoother, more realistic, and detailed passenger boarding/unboarding experience.
In the screenshots shared by SCS Software, both small city stops and large bus terminals stand out. This indicates that players will be presented with routes and experiences of varying lengths. Whether on short or long-distance trips, different driving dynamics will be encountered.
Although no detailed technical information has been shared yet, considering SCS Software’s past updates, this mode is expected to feature high realism. Likely features include in-bus camera views, digital dashboards, and passenger animations.

The community has been requesting an official bus mode for ETS2 for a long time. Now, that expectation is becoming reality. It is also likely that third-party bus mods, which have been developed for years by modders, will be supported with this official update. This could further enhance customization options for players.
No specific release date has been announced for Project Coaches yet. However, SCS Software’s statement shows that the mod has now entered the active development stage. More details are expected to be shared in the coming months.
With this innovation, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is evolving from just a truck simulation into a comprehensive transportation simulation experience. The journey is now becoming much broader for players.
