Todd Howard confirms: TES VI is bringing back the beloved

Elder Scrolls 6 Returns to Its Roots with Classic Bethesda Style!

A game-changing announcement that fans have been waiting for has finally come straight from Todd Howard himself. After Starfield's vast, procedurally generated universe and somewhat "distant" feel, The Elder Scrolls VI (TES VI) is set to bring Bethesda back to its roots and revive that iconic "classic Bethesda style".

Here are the key details behind this exciting decision and what it means for the future of fantasy gaming:

TES VI: A Handcrafted World with a Familiar Soul

Todd Howard explained that while Starfield's massive scale was an impressive feat, the team truly understands what The Elder Scrolls fans have been missing. Instead of focusing on procedural worlds, TES VI will leverage its tech to craft a dense, hand-built map filled with stories at every turn.

3 Golden Rules of Returning to Classic Style

  • "Go Anywhere You See": Unlike the interplanetary loading screens in Starfield, TES VI will offer a truly seamless open world. That famous "see that mountain on the horizon? You can go there" philosophy is coming back stronger than ever.

  • Deep Environmental Storytelling: The kind of tragic tales told by a note next to two skeletons in a cave will be at the heart of TES VI. Instead of procedural generation, every corner will carry that unique "Bethesda touch."

  • Living Cities and NPCs: Cities won’t be disconnected zones like in Starfield, but vibrant parts of the world. NPCs will have daily routines and meaningful interactions with the player, reminiscent of Skyrim and Oblivion.

Map & Atmosphere: Hammerfell or High Rock?

One of the most exciting aspects is the map’s scale. Howard says they’re aiming to "densify" the world rather than just make it bigger.

  • Region: Based on trailers and leaks, it’s almost certain that this time, the series will take us to the scorching deserts of Hammerfell and the steep cliffs of High Rock.

  • Technology: The game will use a far more advanced and optimized version of the Creation Engine 2 first introduced with Starfield.
