Desert Statue Mystery at The Game Awards: Larian Studios Behind the Hype?

Trademark filings reveal that Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is likely behind the statue mystery, hinting at a brand new Divinity game!

Desert Statue Mystery at The Game Awards: Larian Studios Behind the Hype?

Before The Game Awards 2025, a mysterious statue standing in the middle of the desert near Los Angeles had the gaming world buzzing with excitement. While many speculated that it signaled the return of a hellish classic like Elder Scrolls Online, reliable sources are now linking the statue to Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3!

Just hours before the big reveal, new evidence has sent speculation about Larian’s next project into overdrive.

The Statue’s Secret: What Was Being Teased?

This strange monument in the California desert featured a tentacled, eye-like symbol at its center. The most popular theories so far included:

  1. Elder Scrolls Online (because of the demonic/Daedric imagery).

  2. Diablo 4 (hinting at a new class or a shadowy expansion).

  3. A completely new horror game.

However, a trademark application filed yesterday turned all these guesses upside down.

Evidence Points to Larian Studios

The most concrete clue came from two separate trademark filings at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO):

  1. Divinity Trademark: A German law firm, which previously handled filings for Larian’s games, registered a new trademark for a product called “Divinity.” (Divinity is the RPG universe Larian is famous for, predating Baldur's Gate.)

  2. Visual Evidence: The second application featured a logo with that same tentacled eye symbol at its center. This matches the symbol found on the desert monument exactly!

This match makes it almost certain that Larian Studios is behind the statue and is likely teasing a brand new Divinity game.

Comments from Larian

Right after the leak, Larian’s Publishing Director Michael Douse posted cryptic messages on social media.

He later clarified, “We currently have no plans for a new Divinity: Original Sin 3 game, but when we’re ready to show what we’re working on, we’ll show it.”

This specific statement sparked even more speculation among fans: If it’s not Original Sin 3, could it be a new Divinity RPG or a bold, wild new project set in the Divinity universe?

The Big Reveal Is Coming!

The mystery behind the statue will finally be solved during The Game Awards 2025.

Tune in to the awards show starting Thursday, December 12 at 3:30 AM (GMT+3) to discover what Larian Studios has been working on since Baldur's Gate 3!
