World of Warcraft: Forever is live, and servers performed better than expected. Learn about launch queues, the ruleset error, the first legendary weapon, and how to get started.
World of Warcraft: Forever launched globally at midnight (CET) on November 5 and marked one of Blizzard’s smoothest releases in recent years. Though there were some queues and minor errors in the early hours, servers remained largely stable.
Forever is Blizzard’s third and permanent version of WoW, standing alongside the modern and Classic editions. The story takes place after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. You return to the original continents and level up to 60. But familiar paths now lead to new zones, dungeons, and stories.
A new race is also coming to the game: Skyborne. Graphics have been updated as well. An IGN live blog editor noted the lighting effects were stunning while traveling Brill Road.
Servers opened on November 4 at 3:00 PM (PST), which is November 5 at 00:00 (CET) in Europe. There were login queues in the first minutes, but they moved faster than expected. Within a few hours, most players were getting in without issues.
This was a small victory for Blizzard. When name reservations opened a week before launch, European players waited for hours, and there were long queues and disconnects in America. But launch night was much smoother.
Still, a few issues popped up:
Tirisfal Glades was overrun by Undead players. There were so many that players had to form groups just to complete the first quest. This is exactly what the Forever designers wanted: community first.
After launch, Blizzard shared some details about Forever’s server infrastructure. The numbers are impressive:
| Infrastructure | Amount |
|---|---|
| Virtual machines | 3,924 |
| RAM | 251,136 GB |
| CPU cores | 70,480 |
Clearly, Blizzard was well-prepared this time. During beta, developers said the number of testers was the “craziest they’d seen in 17 years.”
The first legendary weapon in Forever is Taldramir, the Whispering Wood. It’s a healing weapon, so healers take the spotlight this time. Blizzard even partnered with Weta Workshop to create it in real life.
Not everything was perfect, of course. The Shaman changes in the patch notes released on the Monday before launch led to the Shaman class Discord server shutting down in protest.
During beta, you usually needed a paid Skyborne pack to play. Now, Forever is available to anyone with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time, with no extra cost. Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, and the Warcraft Forever Collection are optional.
If you don’t have a subscription, you can start right away with a World of Warcraft subscription card. If you want to purchase a Skyborne pack, you can top up your account with a Battle.net gift card.
It launched globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM (PST), which is November 5, 00:00 (CET) in Europe.
No. An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time is enough. Skyborne packs are optional.
Most players resolved it by restarting the game and rejoining the queue.
The level cap is 60.
