A recent Steam update has sent waves of excitement through the Prototype community. Eagle-eyed fans noticed changes hinting at either a remastered edition of the original game or maybe even a brand-new installment. After years of silence, hopes are high for this iconic action series to make a big return.
On September 29, Steam released a patch updating the game’s DirectX files and introducing a new user agreement. Most interestingly, references to “$Downloadable_Content” and “Ubisoft Connect Version” in the credits suggest we could see a visually upgraded remaster or a fresh version compatible with Ubisoft Connect.
The update also reveals Iron Galaxy Studios’ involvement. Known for working with Activision on the Spyro remaster, their presence adds credibility to the Prototype rumors. Plus, the mention of Demonware hints at modernized online features—so this could be a full-scale remaster, not just a simple “texture update.”
Keep in mind, everything so far is still speculation. Activision hasn’t made any official announcements. Some players even reported that certain mods stopped working after the update.
While Prototype fans have plenty to be excited about, nothing is set in stone until we get the official word. Still, all these Steam update details give real hope for a series revival. Stay tuned—any announcement from Activision or Ubisoft could confirm if these rumors are true.
