PlayStation Exclusives Are Returning to Console Only!

Sony ends its PC gaming experiment and brings PlayStation exclusives back to console-only.

PlayStation Exclusives Are Returning to Console Only!

Big changes are shaking up the gaming world! Sony’s “bring PlayStation hits to PC” strategy, which started back in 2020, is coming to a major halt by March 2026. According to reports from Bloomberg and trusted industry insider Jason Schreier, Sony will no longer release its major single-player titles on PC.

Sony’s Bold Move: PS5 Exclusives Say Goodbye to PC!

Sony is shelving its multi-platform policy of the last six years due to underwhelming sales and a renewed focus on protecting its console ecosystem. The brand is shifting back to its “Prestige Console” identity.

Why the Change? (Key Factors)

Three main reasons are behind Sony’s sharp pivot:

  1. Sales Performance: Blockbusters like God of War and Spider-Man failed to replicate their massive console success on PC. For example, Spider-Man 2’s peak player count on Steam was less than half of the first game.

  2. Protecting Brand Value: Every PlayStation game that launches on PC weakens the “must-have” image of the PS5 and threatens hardware sales for both PS5 and the upcoming PS6.

  3. Ecosystem Revenue: Sony earns full profit and subscription income from games sold on its own store, but has to give up to 30 percent to platforms like Steam.

Which Games Are Affected?

Game Status Future
Ghost of Yotei & Wolverine PC plans have been completely scrapped; exclusive to PS5 only.
Live-Service Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still launch on PC to keep the player pool wide.
Third-Party Titles Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora will continue to arrive on PC as per existing agreements.

Important: According to Bloomberg, Sucker Punch’s samurai title Ghost of Yotei had its PC port project personally halted by Sony’s top management in recent weeks.

Industry Insight: The “Nintendo Strategy”

Analysts point out that Sony is moving away from Microsoft’s “play anywhere” approach and returning to Nintendo’s “only on our hardware” model. This move aims to keep the PlayStation community within the console ecosystem and maximize digital sales and PS Plus subscriptions.
