Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming to Switch 2 on November 5. What does the newly announced Threads of Time quest log do and how does it change the game?
Nintendo has confirmed that the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. The game introduces a brand-new feature not found in the original: the Threads of Time quest log.
This feature acts as an in-game story journal. You can view a summary of everything that has happened so far and track your next objective. As Link progresses, a vertical tapestry gradually fills up, turning your adventure into a visual timeline.
The goal is clear: players returning to the game after weeks won't need to search for guides just to remember what to do next. In the 1998 original, your only options were your memory or a paper note.
It's important to draw the right line here. According to sources, Threads of Time focuses solely on main story progression. It is not a completion tracker for collectibles, side quests, or optional content. So if you want to 100 percent the game, keeping your own notes is still a smart move.
The game has been rebuilt from the ground up and, unlike the 2011 3DS version, now features a semi-realistic visual style. Announced changes include:
On the Switch 2 side, Nintendo's store page also lists VRR and HDR support in docked mode. The final target frame rate has not yet been officially announced.

Ocarina of Time is a classic, but the patience of modern gamers has changed. Instead of a map overloaded with markers, a journal you can check or ignore is a smart middle ground. It answers the "What was I doing?" question without ruining the sense of exploration. If this balance works, it could become one of the most talked-about small changes in the remake.
