Mojang has announced that a special edition of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on October 27, 2026. Thanks to Switch 2's backward compatibility, you can already play Minecraft on the new console, but this new version will offer enhanced visuals and performance features.
Vibrant Visuals Now Default

This graphics mode was first introduced in 2025, making the familiar world of Minecraft richer and more immersive. Supported Marketplace content will also benefit from these enhancements. However, Vibrant Visuals isn't available everywhere; split-screen gameplay and some Marketplace worlds or content do not support this mode.
Super Mario Mash-Up Pack Gets an Update
The Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack features Mario-themed textures, music, costumes, and recreations of iconic locations like Peach’s Castle and Delfino Plaza. This pack is being updated to fully leverage Vibrant Visuals on the new hardware.
Upgrade Path for Switch 1 Owners
Mojang has confirmed that players who already own Minecraft on Switch 1 will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version through a digital upgrade path. Save data can be transferred from the Switch 1 version, so you won’t have to start your worlds over.
