How WoW Forever Early Name Reservation Works

Gaming News
23.09.2026

WoW Forever drops server lists and introduces a unique two-part name system for characters. Early Name Reservation opens October 27 here’s how to secure your favorite name.

How WoW Forever Early Name Reservation Works

World of Warcraft: Forever completely removes the traditional server list system. This major change led Blizzard to introduce a new solution for character naming, launching with the Early Name Reservation window that opens one week before release.

When Does It Start?

The Early Name Reservation window will be open from October 27 to November 3, 2026 (Pacific Time). This period starts six days after the beta ends and wraps up one day before the official launch on November 4. Blizzard has not yet announced the exact opening or closing hours, only the date range.

Which Packs Grant Access?

The good news is you don’t need the most expensive pack for this feature. Unlike beta access, Early Name Reservation comes with any paid Forever upgrade pack:

  • Skyborne Heroic Pack (starting at 29.99 USD) — the most affordable option for this feature
  • Skyborne Epic Pack (59.99 USD) — also grants beta access
  • Warcraft Forever Collection (79.99 USD) — includes beta access plus Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign

Pack benefits are applied specifically to the WoW account where the purchase is made. If you want to reserve names on two different game accounts, you’ll need to buy a separate pack for each. Gifted packs do not include an invite code.

How Does the Two-Part Name System Work?

With no server list in Forever, Blizzard has introduced a two-part system to ensure character names are unique across the entire region: Primary Name and Secondary Name. The official example given by Blizzard is "Ana Forever" — the unique combination is both names together. This way, "Ana Forever" and "Ana Stormwind" can coexist, and simply reserving "Ana" alone is not possible.

You can choose to hide your Secondary Name above your character’s head, but it will still appear in chat. Blizzard hasn’t yet detailed the character limits for each field or whether the Secondary Name is mandatory.

How Many Characters Can You Reserve?

When you purchase an eligible pack, you can create and customize up to three characters during this window. Reserved characters will keep their race, class, and selected ruleset (Normal, PvP, Roleplaying), but when servers open on November 4, they’ll all start at level 1. This window does not grant early access to play; it simply lets you secure your identity in advance.

Tips to Secure Your Name

  • Grab your main character’s name as soon as the window opens; waiting even a day could mean someone else takes it.
  • Prepare 2–3 backup name combinations for each character.
  • Plan both your primary and secondary names ahead of time; last-minute decisions might cost you your favorite name.
  • If you’re considering the Roleplaying ruleset, remember it has strict naming guidelines — pick something that fits the world.
  • Plan your three character slots in advance: your main, an alt, and maybe a new race-class combo (like Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, or Forsaken Paladin).

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the cheapest pack for Early Name Reservation?

Skyborne Heroic Pack at 29.99 USD is the most affordable option for this feature; beta access is not required.

Can I play with my reserved character on October 27?

No. The reservation window only lets you lock in your name, race, class, and ruleset in advance; the character becomes playable at the official launch on November 4.

Is my chosen name guaranteed?

No, it’s first come, first served. If your desired name combination is already taken or doesn’t meet the naming rules, you’ll need to choose another or use the in-game random name generator.
