Bungie’s Farewell Gift to Destiny 2 Players: Limited Support Plans Announced

We’re approaching the end of an era in the Destiny universe. As one of the most iconic sci-fi MMO-FPS titles, Destiny 2 is heading toward its final chapter. Developer Bungie has both surprised players with a heartfelt farewell and officially shared the game’s future Limited Support roadmap.

After the The Final Shape expansion and its following Episodes, the direction for servers and updates that keep this vast universe alive has finally been clarified.

Bungie’s Final Surprise All Past Seasonal Content & Cosmetics Permanently Free Players who own all expansions can access previous armor and weapon ornaments.
Support Mode Transition to Limited Support Major content expansions (DLC) will end, focus shifts to stability.
Server Status Servers Will Remain Fully Online No risk of shutdown — keep reliving legendary moments and playing with friends.
Recurring Events Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, and Weekly Nightfall Will continue automatically on a rotating schedule.

Bungie’s Roadmap: What’s Next for Destiny 2?

1. Final Surprise: Massive Pool of Cosmetics & Weapons Unlocked

As a thank you to the community, Bungie is permanently adding many legendary armor sets, weapon ornaments, and exotic cosmetics from the game’s golden eras to the in-game rewards pool. Veteran Guardians who complete specific quests or simply log in will be able to claim these rare collectibles at no additional cost.

2. What Does the Limited Support Era Mean?

This doesn’t mean Destiny 2 is being shut down. The “Limited Support” model means there will be no more major story expansions or core gameplay overhauls. While Bungie’s main team focuses on new projects, a smaller team will continue to maintain server stability, release critical bug fixes, and provide anti-cheat updates for Destiny 2.

3. Automated Rotating Festivals & PvP Calendar

To keep the competitive and social ecosystem alive, events will be managed by an automated schedule. Community favorites like Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, Guardian Games, and Solstice will now launch automatically each year. Weekly Nightfall rotations and Dungeon/Raid reward multipliers will also stay on a cyclical schedule.
