All doubts are put to rest.
Table of Contents
The wait is finally over! Pearl Abyss’ visual masterpiece Crimson Desert has been showcased running live on a standard PlayStation 5, putting months of speculation about base console performance to rest.
How Does Crimson Desert Perform on Standard PS5? Were the Fears Unfounded?
Breaking its long silence, Pearl Abyss released over 20 minutes of gameplay footage on the PlayStation Japan channel, all captured on a base PS5. After seeing footage from PS5 Pro and high-end PCs, can regular console owners finally breathe easy? Here are the technical details and first impressions:
PS5 Performance and Visual Modes
According to Pearl Abyss’ official statement, the game offers three different options on the standard PS5:
| Mode | Resolution | Frame Rate (FPS) | Features |
| Performance | 1080p | 60 FPS | Smooth gameplay with Ray Tracing set to Low. |
| Balanced | 4K (Upscaled) | 40 FPS | Perfect balance for 120Hz displays. |
| Quality | 4K (Upscaled) | 30 FPS | Maximum visual fidelity and Ray Tracing. |
First Impressions: How Different Is It from PC and Pro Versions?
-
Smoothness: In the released 20-minute video, there are no noticeable FPS drops even during intense combat or crowded city scenes.
-
Visual Trade-offs: While the PS5 Pro version offers sharper visuals and better draw distance, the base model has slightly softer edges. Lighting remains impressive, though Ray Tracing effects are more limited.
-
BlackSpace Engine Power: Pearl Abyss’ in-house engine pushes the base console hardware to its limits. Character animations and environmental interactions are still among the best in the genre.
Editor’s Note: After the Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco, many gamers were hesitant to pre-order without seeing base console footage. These new videos prove that Crimson Desert delivers a solid experience even on the standard PS5.
