Riot Games Brings Popular FPS to Consoles

Valorant Launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Riot Games has announced the launch of its popular first-person shooter, Valorant, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The open beta for Valorant on these consoles is now available for free download, without the need for any codes.

Open Beta Now Available

Valorant, a free-to-play 5v5 tactical FPS, has made its beta debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Anyone can join the open beta without requiring an invite. However, there are some differences between the PC and console versions of the game.

New Shooting Mode: Focus

In the PC version of Valorant, hip-fire is the primary shooting mode, with ADS (aim down sights) serving as a secondary option. For the console version, Riot has introduced a new shooting mode called Focus. This mode is similar to hip-fire but with reduced sensitivity. Microsoft explains that this allows players to hip-fire when they need speed for camera and aim movement, and use Focus mode for more precise headshots.

No Cross-Platform Play

Valorant does not support cross-platform play between PC and consoles. Only players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can play together. Microsoft states, "This decision is to maintain the competitive integrity of the game, considering the necessary control changes for consoles."

A Brief History

Valorant was originally released for PC on June 2, 2020. As a free-to-play, team-based shooter, it has remained one of the most popular FPS games. Riot also announced in 2021 that they were working on a mobile version of Valorant, promising the same experience as the PC version. However, there have been no updates on the mobile version since then.

Valorant's launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S brings a new dimension to the game, offering console players the chance to engage in its tactical FPS action. With new modes and console-specific features, Riot Games continues to expand the reach of Valorant, maintaining its status as a leading title in the FPS genre. Whether you're a seasoned PC player or new to the game on console, there's never been a better time to dive into the action.
