Roblox’s new Build feature lets users turn simple text prompts into playable games using AI all from their phones.
On July 16, 2026, Roblox announced a new feature called Build. This feature lets users turn simple text prompts into playable, basic games using AI all directly from their phones.
When a user enters a text command, AI generates the core of a game based on that prompt. You can then expand the game by testing it and entering additional commands. According to Roblox, Build uses a combination of open-source and proprietary AI models, handling game mechanics, environments, characters, visual style, and sound all at once. Until now, creating games was only possible on Mac or PC using Roblox Studio. Build brings the entire process to mobile devices for the first time.
Build will start rolling out to the Roblox mobile app on July 28, initially as a public alpha test available only to users in New Zealand. Users aged 16 and above will be able to publish their creations to a global audience. The basic version will be free, with paid options available for advanced users.
Roblox is also adding new AI tools to its desktop game development software, Roblox Studio. Games created with Build on mobile can later be further developed in Studio, connecting mobile and desktop workflows.
Roblox has stated that games made with Build will enter the same candidate pool as all other Roblox games and will be ranked using the same retention-based discovery algorithm. This means AI-generated games will compete directly with traditionally developed games, with no separate category or special ranking.
The announcement sparked mixed reactions among developers and players. Critics argue that lowering the barriers to game creation with text commands could fill the platform with low-quality, lookalike games. This also increases competition; developers now have to compete not just with each other, but with AI-generated content that can be produced much faster.
Previously, Roblox introduced Procedural Models, which generate customizable 3D objects from text or images, and Cube, a base model that can create functional objects like driveable vehicles and shootable weapons. Roblox also revealed they are working on a scene generation model that will let users create editable, playable environments from a single prompt, though there’s no release date yet. For professional developers, AI agents are being planned to detect bugs, answer analytics questions in plain language, and suggest experiments to boost engagement and revenue.
If you want to try Build’s advanced paid options or access premium content in your games, you can top up your account without sharing credit card details. Use a Roblox gift card on lotkeys to add Robux with no regional restrictions.
