Resident Evil Showcase 2026: 5 Highlights You Can't Miss

After years of rumours and anticipation, Capcom finally delivered. In an action-packed 40-minute presentation, the company balanced nostalgia with cutting-edge horror tech. Here’s a summary of the event:

1. Resident Evil 9: "The Empty Island" Officially Announced

The biggest reveal of the night was the first trailer for Resident Evil 9. Subtitled "The Empty Island," the game takes players to a mysterious, fog-shrouded island in Southeast Asia. The trailer showcased an older Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine together, sparking huge excitement among fans. The release is set for January 2027.

2. Resident Evil 1 Remake: A Classic Reborn

The long-rumoured "re-remake" of the original game is finally real. Built from the ground up with the RE Engine, this version brings the eerie Spencer Mansion to life with photorealistic visuals. The game now uses an over-the-shoulder camera instead of fixed angles, and the mansion’s maze-like structure and puzzles have been fully modernized.

3. "Mercenaries: All-Stars" Multiplayer Mode

Capcom is transforming the fan-favourite Mercenaries mode into a massive standalone service. Mercenaries: All-Stars will unite all iconic characters from the series (from Wesker to Hunk) and classic maps in a free, ever-evolving mode. It will be integrated with RE 9 and support up to four-player co-op.

4. A Tease for Code: Veronica X

At the end of the showcase, a familiar tune and the letters "C.V." appeared on screen, officially confirming that the long-awaited Code: Veronica Remake is in development. While there’s no release date or trailer yet, Capcom made it clear this project is a priority.

5. PS VR3 and Apple Vision Pro Support

Capcom is pushing the boundaries of horror with new tech. Both Resident Evil 9 and RE 1 Remake will launch with full PlayStation VR3 and Apple Vision Pro support. A terrifying new AI system using eye-tracking was introduced, where enemies react not only to where you look, but also to the moments you’re not watching.
