PlayStation Exclusives Are Returning to Console Only!

Sony ends its PC game experiment for PlayStation exclusives.

PlayStation Exclusives Are Returning to Console Only!

Big changes are shaking up the gaming world! Sony’s strategy of bringing PlayStation hits to PC, which started in 2020, is coming to an end in March 2026 with a major reversal. According to Bloomberg and industry insider Jason Schreier, Sony will no longer release its major single-player titles on PC.

Sony’s Bold Move: No More PC Ports for PS5 Exclusives!

Sony is shelving its multi-platform policy of the past six years due to underwhelming sales and a renewed focus on protecting its console ecosystem. The brand is shifting back to its “Prestige Console” identity.

Why the Change? (Key Factors)

There are three main reasons behind this sharp shift:

  1. Sales Performance: Blockbusters like God of War and Spider-Man failed to replicate their console success on PC. For example, the peak concurrent players for Spider-Man 2 on Steam didn’t even reach half of the original game’s numbers.

  2. Protecting Brand Value: Sony concluded that releasing games on PC weakened the “must-have” status of the PS5 and threatened hardware sales for both PS5 and the upcoming PS6.

  3. Ecosystem Revenue: When games are sold through Sony’s own store, they keep 100% of profits and subscription income, but on platforms like Steam, they lose up to 30% in fees.

Which Games Are Affected?

Status Future
Ghost of Yotei & Wolverine PC plans have been completely scrapped. Exclusive to PS5 only.
Live-Service Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still launch on PC to keep the player base wide.
Third-Party Titles Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora will continue to arrive on PC as per existing agreements.

Important: According to Bloomberg, development of the PC port for Sucker Punch’s new samurai title Ghost of Yotei was halted by top management in recent weeks.

Industry Insight: The “Nintendo Strategy”

Analysts note that Sony is moving away from Microsoft’s “play anywhere” approach, instead returning to Nintendo’s “only on our hardware” model. This move aims to maximize digital sales and PS Plus subscriptions by keeping the PlayStation community within the console ecosystem.
