2K will remove NBA 2K25 from digital stores on October 30, 2026, and shut down its online modes on January 1, 2027. The game won't be deleted from your library, but anything that requires a server connection—including MyCareer—will become unplayable.

What Did 2K Officially Say?

The company's statement: "The final buzzer sounds, and it's time for NBA 2K25 to retire." Starting January 1, 2027, all multiplayer matches and online game modes will be inaccessible. Servers go offline on December 31, 2026, so you'll feel the impact the next day.

NBA 2K25 launched in September 2024, so its active lifespan is about two years. Some sources mix up the dates, but several news sites confirm October 30, 2026 for store removal and January 1, 2027 for online shutdown. These are the dates we've used.

What's Shutting Down, What Stays?

Even in the remaining modes, any feature requiring a server connection will be disabled. The loss of MyCareer stands out, since it feels like a single-player mode but actually relies on online servers.

This Isn’t 2K’s First Shutdown

2K regularly retires older entries in the annual NBA series. NBA 2K24's servers were also shut down on December 31, 2025. For digital collectors, this brings up the ongoing conversation around game preservation: losing access to parts of a game you've purchased.

What Should You Do?

• If you play MyCareer or MyTeam, consider finishing your progress and spending your VC before the shutdown.
• If you still want to buy the game, sales end on October 30 and you'll only get offline modes.
• If you focus on online or MyCareer gameplay, switching to the latest NBA release from 2K makes more sense.

Before you jump into the latest release, you can top up your funds with an Xbox gift card to get the game on launch day.
