AdHoc Studio’s award-winning superhero comedy Dispatch is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 29, fully uncensored.
AdHoc Studio has announced that Dispatch, one of last year's most talked-about narrative games, is launching on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC on July 29, 2026. The Xbox version arrives in its original, uncensored form, unaffected by the censorship controversies that surrounded the Switch release.
Dispatch follows the story of disgraced superhero Robert Robertson III, also known as Mecha-Man, whose mechanical armor is destroyed by a nemesis. Instead of returning to the field, he takes a desk job at a dispatch center, managing a team of former supervillains. Players choose which hero to send on which mission, shape relationships through dialogue choices, and see how every decision changes the course of the story.
The voice cast is one of AdHoc Studio's biggest strengths. Founded by former Telltale Games developers (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us), AdHoc brings together Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as the lead, alongside Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part II), Jeffrey Wright (The Batman), Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), and Erin Yvette (The Wolf Among Us).
After episodic releases on PS5 and Windows in October-November 2025, Dispatch arrived on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in January 2026. However, the Switch edition was censored to comply with platform guidelines, causing backlash among fans. AdHoc rolled back most of this censorship with the "HR Violations" update on June 17, 2026. The Xbox release includes this update from day one, delivering the full, uncensored experience identical to the PS5 and PC versions.
Dispatch has sold over 4 million copies since launch, surpassing 1 million in its first 10 days. On OpenCritic, 97 percent of critics recommend the game, and it holds a "generally favorable" rating on Metacritic. IGN awarded it a 9 out of 10, praising its deep characters and all-star cast.
No official word yet. Microsoft and AdHoc Studio have not confirmed whether this major title will join the Game Pass library. The Xbox version supports Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, so you can play on both console and PC with one purchase and shared saves.
Five days before the Xbox launch, on July 24, the "Dispatch: Off the Clock with the Z-Team" panel at San Diego Comic-Con brings together Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, and Travis Willingham. AdHoc's creative director previously hinted that the team "should at least consider" a second season, so expect possible teasers about the future of the series.
If you want to grab the game on launch day, you can top up your account without sharing credit card info. Use a Windows or Microsoft Store gift card to get ready for the July 29 release.
The official Xbox price hasn’t been announced yet, but expect it to be similar to the $29.99 Steam price.
