CD Projekt Red has announced a surprise update for Cyberpunk 2077: Update 2.5, also known as the Edgerunners 2 Update, will be released for free on October 22, 2026. The announcement came on the same day Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix, October 20.

What’s in Update 2.5?

According to the studio’s press release, the update will add new items and features inspired by the latest anime season. A detailed list of content hasn’t been shared yet. CD Projekt Red will showcase the first look during a special REDstreams broadcast on October 21, with official patch notes released the same day.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not on the list. This isn’t surprising, as updates have only been available for next-gen consoles since Update 2.0.

Why is Edgerunners 2 important?

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is a co-production between CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio TRIGGER. The series tells a new, standalone story with a fresh cast: a veteran edgerunner, a movie-obsessed young character, a street kid obsessed with implants, and a netrunner from Snake Nation. Directed by Kai Ikarashi and showrun by Bartosz Sztybor.

The studio has used this formula before. When the first Edgerunners premiered in 2022, the game also received a content update featuring items from the anime, which brought a significant influx of players back to Night City. A similar effect is expected this time around; the anime and the free update launching in the same week is no coincidence.
