A New Challenger to Valorant: Marathon Gameplay Reveal

Bungie, the legendary studio behind Halo and Destiny, is back with an exciting new team-based first-person shooter: Marathon. Recently, Bungie officially announced the release date of Marathon and shared an extended gameplay trailer, offering a deep look into what could be the next big title in the competitive shooter genre.

What Is Marathon?

Published by Sony, Marathon throws players into intense PvPvE (Player vs Player vs Environment) scenarios where survival, strategy, and loot collection go hand in hand. Set in futuristic, hazard-filled maps, players must explore, scavenge, and extract valuable gear—all while dealing with enemy NPCs and rival players.

Loot includes a variety of weapons, gadgets, and customizable gear. Dying during a match causes players to drop all collected materials, making every run a high-stakes mission. Earned currency from successful runs can be spent on upgrades and new equipment in between matches, adding a compelling progression system.

Unique Playable Characters and Customization Options

Meet the Runners

Marathon introduces six distinct playable characters known as Runners. Each Runner has a unique playstyle and special abilities that can offer significant advantages during missions. This opens the door for strategic team compositions and personal play preferences.

Weapons, loadouts, and character skins are fully customizable, allowing players to tailor their appearance and functionality. Whether you prefer stealth, aggression, or support, there’s a Runner for every type of gamer.

Intense Multiplayer Experience

Dynamic Maps and PvPvE Action

At launch, Marathon will feature multiple maps designed to host matches of up to 18 players. Players will compete in three-player teams, navigating maps filled with environmental hazards and enemy NPCs. Much like Escape from Tarkov or The Division: Dark Zone, extracting with loot without dying is the key to success.

The dynamic and hostile environments ensure that no two runs are the same, offering high replayability and continuous challenges.

Marathon Release Date and Platforms

Mark your calendars—Marathon is set to launch on September 23 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The game will support cross-platform play and cross-save, ensuring a seamless experience regardless of your preferred platform.

An alpha beta test is also planned for later this month, giving eager players a chance to experience the action early.

With its tactical gameplay, unique characters, and high-stakes loot extraction mechanics, Marathon is shaping up to be a worthy contender in the FPS landscape—possibly even a serious rival to Valorant. Stay tuned for more updates and be ready to dive in this September!
