Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered launches just 16 days before GTA 6, on November 3. Developer Pipeworks says the date has nothing to do with GTA 6.
The upcoming release of GTA 6 on November 19 has created a black hole effect in the gaming industry. While almost no major title dares to launch in November, one surprising name has chosen to break the rule: Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered.
Speaking to IGN, Pipeworks senior designer Simon Strange explained that GTA 6 had no influence on their November 3 release date: "I wasn’t worried at all when looking at the calendar. I didn’t care what other games were coming out because Godzilla fans are genuinely excited for this game. No matter the day, they’d buy it; releasing on Godzilla’s birthday is simply a respectful gesture." In another interview, Strange confirmed the GTA 6 launch was never a concern: "Honestly, it never even crossed our minds when picking the date. That’s not my job — I make video games. I don’t really care about other release schedules. If Atari had said ‘this date might impact sales due to GTA,’ we would have discussed it, but no one brought it up."
The date wasn’t chosen at random; November 3 is recognized as Godzilla’s birthday and also aligns with the Japanese premiere of the Godzilla Minus Zero sequel. So, the studio prioritized Godzilla’s own celebration calendar over GTA 6’s release.
This remaster revives the original 2002 Destroy All Monsters Melee for GameCube, developed by Pipeworks in close collaboration with Toho. The updated version features completely redesigned visuals, online multiplayer, eight different locations with day and night variants, and an improved unlock system. For the first time, the game is coming to PlayStation — physical editions will be available for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, while Xbox Series X|S and PC versions will be digital-only.
Godzilla isn’t the only one unafraid of GTA 6’s shadow. The Barbie Rewind collection, which bundles classic Barbie games, is also launching around the same time. Devolver Digital is taking things even further, announcing that Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed — a “remaster” of a non-existent remake — will release on Steam the very same day as GTA 6, November 19.
Aside from these bold exceptions, November is unusually quiet for major releases. Most developers have cleared the month entirely, leading to a packed September and October. Big names like The Blood of Dawnwalker, Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, Silent Hill Townfall, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, the console release of Dune: Awakening, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (out October 23) are all crowding the earlier months. Meanwhile, the Fable reboot was postponed to February 2027 due to concerns about launching near GTA 6; Microsoft explained the delay as a move to give the game its best chance at success.
The game will be released on November 3, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
