Wario Land Classic Joins Nintendo Switch Online in July
Nintendo Switch Online Classics just added four new titles: Wario Land, Fortified Zone, Sword of Hope II, and Dr. Mario & Puzzle League.

On July 7, 2026, Nintendo added four classic games to the Nintendo Switch Online Classics library. Leading the lineup is Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, which marks the first time Wario stars as the main hero.

All four games are playable on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. This is the first update to the library since Donkey Kong 64 was added at the end of May.
Why Wario Land Matters
Released in 1994, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 was the first game to make Mario’s greedy rival Wario the main character. Instead of jumping on enemies, Wario tackles them, and rather than collecting stars, he hunts for treasure. By wearing different hats, he transforms into Bull Wario, Jet Wario, or Dragon Wario, each unlocking unique paths in every level. This title laid the foundation for the Wario series that would evolve over the next 30 years.
What About the Other Three Games?
Fortified Zone is a top-down shooter from 1991, where players infiltrate a massive military base by switching between two mercenaries with unique abilities. The Sword of Hope II is a fantasy RPG with point-and-click mechanics, using commands like "Look," "Open," and "Hit"; the first game in this series was added to NSO in May 2025. Dr. Mario & Puzzle League is a 2005 GBA release, offering two classic puzzle games in one package.
The Current State of the Library
With these additions, Nintendo Switch Online Classics now features a total of 46 Game Boy and 29 Game Boy Advance titles. Wario Land 2, Wario Land 3, and the GameCube’s Wario World are still missing from the library. In Japan, the same update included Tomato Adventure, an RPG developed by AlphaDream, which launched on July 8 but is currently available only through the Japanese eShop.
