Ubisoft Delays Assassin's Creed Shadows Release to February 2025

Ubisoft has officially postponed the release date for Assassin's Creed Shadows, shifting its launch from November 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025. The company cited the need for additional development time to further polish the game’s mechanics, especially the new parkour and stealth systems, which were highlighted in a 12-minute gameplay video released in June.

Why the Delay?

According to Ubisoft's Vice President and Producer, Marc-Alexis Côté, the development team recognized that more time was needed to refine the gaming experience. Côté stated, “We know that to elevate our experience and push forward some of our core features, we need additional time.” The decision also follows lessons learned from the release of Star Wars Outlaws, where additional time for polish led to positive outcomes.

New Release Date on Valentine's Day

Assassin's Creed Shadows is now set to release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025. It will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players who pre-order the game will receive the first expansion for free, a new move by Ubisoft to enhance player engagement. Additionally, the game will feature a simultaneous worldwide release, allowing all players to jump into the action at the same time.

Changes to the Traditional Season Pass Model

In a significant departure from its usual model, Ubisoft announced that the Assassin's Creed Shadows season pass system is being revised. Instead of a staggered release for expansions, all players will have access to the game on the same day, February 14, with early expansion access granted to those who pre-order.

Competition and Timing with Other Game Releases

The revised release date places Assassin's Creed Shadows just a few days before Obsidian’s highly anticipated RPG, Avowed, which is scheduled for release on February 18, 2025. Ubisoft’s delay also comes shortly after the announcement of Ghost of Yotei, a major release from Sucker Punch expected in 2025. This timing sets up a competitive landscape for early 2025, with several major game titles vying for attention.

A Game Set in Feudal Japan

One of the most exciting aspects of Assassin's Creed Shadows is its setting in feudal Japan, a location that fans of the series have long requested. Players will be able to choose between two characters: Yasuke, a samurai, and Naoe, a shinobi assassin, offering a dual protagonist experience. Ubisoft has also confirmed that the game will eventually be available on macOS, further broadening its platform availability.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is poised to make a big splash in 2025, bringing a fresh storyline, enhanced mechanics, and a unique setting to the beloved franchise. Stay tuned as we approach the new February 14, 2025, release date.
