The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Reveal Date Announced

CD Projekt Red has announced that the first in-depth details about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Songs of the Past expansion will be revealed on August 25 during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The expansion was initially teased in May with a brief announcement, but since then, only a summary and a few new visuals of Geralt have been shared.

When and Where Is the Reveal

Gamescom Opening Night Live will be broadcast on August 25 at 11:00 AM Pacific, 2:00 PM Eastern, and 8:00 PM Central European Time. Players and press attending Gamescom in Cologne can watch a guided presentation of Songs of the Past at the CD Projekt Red booth, though there will not be a hands-on demo. Presentations will be held in the business area (Hall 4.2, booth B065) from August 26-28, and in the entertainment area (Hall 8.1, booths B030 and A031) from August 26-30.

What We Know About the Expansion

Songs of the Past brings players back into the role of legendary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, marking the third major expansion for The Witcher 3. The expansion is being developed in partnership with Fool's Theory, a studio that includes experienced developers from the original game. CD Projekt Red has stated that the scale of the content will be similar to the fan-favorite expansion Blood and Wine.

Why Was It Delayed to 2027

The expansion was originally planned for release in 2026, but CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michał Nowakowski announced that the launch has been pushed to 2027 "to achieve the best possible result." Due to hardware requirements, the expansion will drop support for Windows 10 and Xbox One, meaning it will only be playable on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and modern PC systems.

How the Announcement Was Leaked

Songs of the Past was officially announced on May 27, 2026, a day earlier than planned. CD Projekt Red intended to reveal the expansion during the anniversary stream for Blood and Wine on May 28, but the information was accidentally leaked a day early via REDlauncher.

Analyst Speculation

Polish analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski published a report claiming the development budget for the expansion is around 52 million zloty. The same report suggests that the launch of the expansion could kick off the main marketing campaign for The Witcher 4. These details have not been confirmed by CD Projekt Red and should be considered speculation.
