Right after Gamescom, Sony continues its tradition since 2019 by gathering the PlayStation community in front of their screens once again with this week's State of Play broadcast. This time, there are not one but two back-to-back showcases.

When and How to Watch

The double showcase kicks off on Thursday, September 3, at 06:00 PT / 09:00 ET / 14:00 BST / 15:00 CEST / 22:00 JST (16:00 local time in Turkey). Both events can be watched for free on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. The first stream will be in English with Japanese subtitles, followed immediately by State of Play Japan in Japanese with English subtitles. Since both streams run consecutively without interruption, you can easily follow both in one sitting.

What’s Confirmed

Sony has confirmed that the main State of Play will close with an in-depth look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The game is currently scheduled for release on PS5 in spring 2027. The latest Gamescom trailer showed off Weapons enemies and Cloud and his friends traveling the world aboard the Highwind. Other than that, Sony is keeping the rest of the lineup tightly under wraps.

What to Expect

There’s no official list, but upcoming releases and rumors fuel some predictions:

• Marvel's Wolverine: As the release approaches, a final marketing push is expected.
• God of War Laufey: With the February 16, 2027 release date already announced, pre-orders may open during this broadcast.
• Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet: Naughty Dog’s project, first revealed at The Game Awards 2024, has been silent since then; it might be time for a gameplay reveal.
• The Future of Astro Bot: After winning Game of the Year, fans are curious about the studio’s next move, though it might still be early.
• Silent Studios: Media Molecule, which hasn’t announced a new project since Dreams in 2020, and the long-quiet Bend Studio could also make an appearance.

September and Beyond Are Packed

This State of Play is a reminder of the jam-packed release calendar ahead. September brings major titles like Marvel’s Wolverine (PS5 exclusive), Control Resonant, NBA 2K27, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. October is set for launches such as Hellraiser: Revival, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Final Fantasy Resonance. And in November, the most anticipated title arrives: Grand Theft Auto 6.
