What Is Connected Franchise?

This mode lets players create a league with friends and manage a season with up to 32 fully human-controlled teams. Flexible scheduling, roster management, and commissioner tools are key features. The NHL series last offered a similar mode in NHL 14 back in 2014. A partial version called GM Connected returned in NHL 15, but only on PS3 and Xbox 360. EA removed the mode at the time, citing it as “one of the least played modes.” NHL 15 also received review scores 21 points lower on average than its predecessor.

Why It’s Not Quite What Fans Imagined

While the return of the mode has excited much of the community, certain restrictions have divided fans. You can’t play against CPU teams or trade with the CPU; everything must be done with real players, which makes the mode less practical for small leagues. Also, the mode is limited to just one season, so there’s currently no option for long-term multi-season management. As it stands, Connected Franchise looks like an initial step that may see several years of development in future editions.

The commentary team now features John Buccigross from ESPN and former NHL goalie Darren Pang, bringing a true broadcast feel with modern graphics and more contextual commentary.

NHL 27 launches on September 11, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The cover athlete is San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini. The Deluxe Edition includes seven days of early access, 4,600 NHL Points, various HUT packs, and Celebrini-themed pre-order bonuses.
