Trapstar Games’ Hood Warfare 2 hit Steam on October 8. This Chicago-themed team FPS draws comparisons to GTA, but players say it feels more like Call of Duty.
Trapstar Games' Hood Warfare 2 dropped on Steam on October 8, bringing Chicago-inspired gang warfare to a team-based FPS format. Game Rant describes it as "GTA with team PvP," but most players are comparing it to Call of Duty.
This fast-paced first-person shooter pits rival teams against each other across urban maps. The first game in the series launched in January 2023 and was set in Detroit. According to the developer, it's been almost four years since the original. Game Rant notes the game has transitioned from Unity to Unreal Engine 5.
The GTA comparison mainly comes from the crime and gang atmosphere. There's no open world, story mode, or vehicle driving like you find in GTA.
Dexerto lists six game modes:
According to Game Rant, maps include downtown streets, suburbs, The Trenches, and Chicago Mall. Bot support is available, so you can jump in even if you're solo or servers are empty. Player count and server structure haven't been specified.
Dexerto reports that comparisons to Call of Duty helped the game gain traction. It features killstreaks, a class creation system, and a HUD reminiscent of the Modern Warfare series. In a clip by Rainbow Six Siege player Merc, which has over five million views, the "Snitch" ability is shown—unlocked via killstreak and works similarly to a UAV in Call of Duty. Some players even say the gunplay and movement feel "better than Call of Duty."
On the flip side, some critics say it's fun for a short time but lacks long-term content. At the time of Dexerto's article, Steam reviews were "Mostly Positive."
The game is PC-only and available through Steam. It's an indie title with a budget-friendly price—check the current price on its Steam page. If you want to top up your funds, you can use a Steam Wallet Code.
