Hitman: Absolution is launching as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on October 22, 2026. This is not a brand-new Hitman game, but rather an updated version of the 2012 title, specially optimized for Switch 2.

What’s Being Released?

According to press releases from Gematsu and Feral Interactive, Feral Interactive is publishing this edition, while the original developer remains IO Interactive. As reported by Gematsu, Feral’s adaptation of Absolution first arrived on iOS and Android on October 16, 2025, and then on Switch on November 13, 2025. The Switch 2 Edition is a version tailored for Nintendo’s new console.

What’s New in the Switch 2 Edition?

• Resolution: Enhanced output resolution in both handheld and TV modes.
• Performance: A new Performance setting targets 60 fps in both modes.
• Visual Improvements: Upgraded animations and visual effects.
• Controls: Added mouse support via Joy-Con. This is the only control change mentioned in the press release.
• Contracts Mode: Available from day one. Create and share your own assassination missions or try to beat other players’ scores.

Free Upgrade for Switch Owners

If you own the original Switch version, you can claim a free upgrade pack from the eShop for a limited time. According to Gematsu and GamingBolt, prices will change on November 5: after this date, the upgrade will become paid and the launch discount for the new Switch 2 version will end.

Feral’s press release does not specify the exact end date for the free upgrade, only noting that prices change on November 5. To be safe, upgrade before November 5 if you already own the previous version. The original Switch edition will continue to be available on the eShop.

What Does This Mean for Players?

Absolution is one of the most story-driven and debated entries in the series, but its Contracts mode remains a fan favorite. With improved performance, the Switch 2 edition is a great option for those who want to experience the game on a handheld device. However, if you’re waiting for a brand-new Hitman game, this is just an update, not a new title announcement.

If you plan to purchase the Switch 2 edition, you can top up your eShop account funds in advance. For this, a Nintendo eShop gift card from lotkeys will do the trick.
