Everything Revealed for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave at Nintendo Direct

On August 4, Nintendo hosted a special Direct dedicated to Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. The 20-minute presentation detailed the game's story, its four main heroes, the class system, and official release date.

Release Date and Price

  • Release date: September 17, 2026
  • Platform: Exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2
  • Digital price: $69.99
  • Physical price: $79.99

Story Overview

Set five years after the Hero Games, the Dagdan Empire faces destruction at the hands of the resurrected demon god Balor. The four Heroes, who played a crucial role in the Hero Games, have mysteriously vanished. The ancient goddess Sothis entrusts the mission of saving the world to a wandering soul: the player. The main character is gender-selectable and joins the story after a pivotal event, once the true antagonist is revealed.

The Four Heroes and Unique Abilities

Players choose one of four lead characters—Cai, Theodora, Leda, or Dietrich—to shape the story. Each hero now comes with a powerful, exclusive ability; during the Direct, Cai’s dark magic area attack was showcased, which can instantly defeat enemies instead of just leaving them with 1 HP like previous games. While the game encourages following a main path, players can switch between the four routes at key moments in the story.

Class System and Gameplay

  • The multi-layered class system from Three Houses returns, complete with promotion exams
  • Dungeon exploration inspired by Shadows of Valentia
  • Character recruitment system continues, including persuading characters to join as in Engage
  • Between Hero Games matches, players can recruit, train, and bond with characters during free time
  • Earn experience points by exploring regions outside the city
  • Returning classes include: Noble, Commoner, Myrmidon, Hunter, Shaman

Main Antagonist and Three Houses Connection

The Direct introduced a new villain, referencing the "Rise of the Underworld," followed by Sothis mentioning the "promised one who will lead the living to salvation." A new figure, Eshmel—known as the "Harbinger of the Pale Raven"—is revealed as the leader of a demon army summoned from the Underworld. The appearance of an older Sothis and the return of Hero Relics directly reference Three Houses and Three Hopes. The goddess Fortuna’s time-travel powers also tie into the theme of altering the fate of the Four Heroes.

Additional Announcements

Nintendo Music started adding tracks from Fortune's Weave, including its main theme, on the same day. The Nintendo Today app will receive new Fire Emblem-themed content the following day. A $10 discount option was also announced for those who pre-order the physical edition.
