Demon Hunter is back in Diablo 5, officially revealed at BlizzCon 2026. Discover Blizzard’s statement, the 2029 release window, and what’s still unknown.
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard confirmed that the Demon Hunter class will return in Diablo 5. The class keeps its signature twin crossbows, but the game director says this will be “a new take.”
The official class introduction is short and clear: The Demon Hunter “hunts the forces of Hell with twin crossbows, strikes from the shadows, and leaps across the battlefield to eliminate their prey.” This statement was shared during the BlizzCon developer update.
Game director Joe Shely described the class in an interview with GameSpot: “It’s going to be a new representation of the class. It’ll be different, but you’ll still have those twin crossbows.” So, while the core identity remains, this isn’t an exact copy of Diablo 3’s Demon Hunter.
Although headlines call it a “new reveal,” these statements come from the BlizzCon panel on September 12, 2026. There hasn’t been a separate Demon Hunter announcement in October. What’s new is that the class is now officially part of the Diablo 5 roster.
| Topic | Status |
|---|---|
| Announced classes | Demon Hunter, Monk, Plague Knight (new to the series) |
| Demon Hunter identity | Twin crossbows, high mobility, shadow attacks |
| Release window | 2029 (most sources say spring) |
| Platforms | Not announced |
| Skill tree | Not revealed yet |
Blizzard hasn’t shown the Demon Hunter’s skill tree, resource system, or whether trap mechanics will return. The fate of classes like Barbarian and Necromancer from Diablo 4 is also unclear. Shely says the game will launch with “more classes than any previous Diablo,” but hasn’t given an exact number.
One source mentioned 9 to 10 classes, but other sources haven’t confirmed this, so it’s not included here.
Blizzard stated that Lord of Hatred, Diablo 4’s second expansion, will be its last. After that, the game will continue with seasonal content. These seasons aim to fill the roughly 100-year story gap between Diablo 4 and Diablo 5. Starting in 2027, Blizzard will share regular development updates.
Quick note: 2029 is a long way off, but the early reveal of the Demon Hunter shows Blizzard wants to keep longtime fans engaged with a classic class.
