DC Universe Online's PlayStation 5 Version Is Out

What You Need to Know

Thirteen years after its release on PC and PlayStation 3, DC Universe Online continues its journey. Now, the developer has made a surprise announcement, revealing the release of the PlayStation 5 version and discussing future updates.

Kenn "Kendricke" White, the new Executive Producer at Dimensional Ink, announced that the free MMO game DCUO, owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is now available to PS5 players with performance improvements. Until now, the PS4 version of the game could only be run on PS5 through backward compatibility. The studio also says that Xbox Series X/S versions are "on the way."

According to Dimensional Ink, the PS5 version of the game will have faster loading times, smoother transitions, and higher frame rates. In fact, the game servers have already been opened to PS5 users, allowing PS5, PS4, and PC players to play together on the same server. Characters, accounts, and purchase history can be transferred to PS5.

Dimensional Ink states, "The PS5 version of DCUO will take better advantage of the hardware of the device to achieve more robust performance, higher frame rates, shorter loading times, and native 4K resolution." "The game itself will be exactly the same as the PS4 version."

On the other hand, Episode 47: Brainiac Returns! is set to release in May, while Episode 48 is slated for September. Episode 49 is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2025.

In a letter to players, Kendricke expressed that the DCUO team has grown with new creative and art directors. "We are making serious investments in the future of the game and the growth of DCUO," says Kendricke. "In short, now is a great time to be a DCUO player."

DC Universe Online (DCUO) was first released in January 2011 for PC and PS3, followed by its launch for PS4 in November 2013. Realizing it likely forgot about Xbox players, the company released the game on Xbox One three years later and finally brought it to Nintendo Switch in 2019. The game's developer, Daybreak Austin Studio, renamed as Dimensional Ink Games in January 2020, continues to work on content with publisher Daybreak Games Company.
