Director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will take up around 200 GB of storage.
There's exciting news for those eagerly awaiting the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Revelation. But this comes with a major PS5 storage headache.
On September 18, game director Naoki Hamaguchi told VGC that Revelation's file size will "likely" be massive. So massive, in fact, that it won't fit on a single disc—or even two or three. In his own words: "In short, yes. The details are still being worked out, but we're probably looking at around 200 GB for the game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this, but ultimately, we need to push the hardware to a certain extent."
This number takes up almost a third of the standard PS5's usable storage (about 667 GB). For players who already own games like Elder Scrolls Online, Ghost of Yotei, Infinity Nikki, or Mortal Shell 2—each taking up around or over 100 GB—this means you'll need to do some serious library cleaning.
| Detail | Size |
|---|---|
| Standard PS5 usable storage | ~667 GB |
| FF7 Revelation (estimated) | ~200 GB |
| Remaining space (after one game) | ~467 GB |
When Hamaguchi says they "need to push the hardware," it shows just how ambitious the trilogy's finale is—both visually and technically. Revelation promises a breathtaking open-world experience where Cloud and his team explore vast skies and battle together. This scale requires a massive asset library.
PS5 owners have a few options: be ready to delete and redownload games, use an external hard drive (only works for backward-compatible PS4 titles; PS5 games must be installed on the main drive), or upgrade your internal SSD. With the game set for a Spring 2027 release, there's still time to plan your storage strategy.
This file size is also a big question for those hoping for a physical copy. Hamaguchi's statement that it won't fit on one, two, or even three discs leaves us wondering how the physical edition will be packaged. Expect more details as launch approaches.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the game will be around 200 GB, though the exact size isn't final yet.
Theoretically yes, but with only about 667 GB of usable space, one game will take up nearly a third of your storage—so you'll need to manage space carefully if you have other large titles.
The game is planned for a Spring 2027 release on PS5.
