Today’s Biggest Launches

Final Fantasy Resonance

Developed by Square Enix and Lancarse, this is the series’ first mainline HD-2D entry. You play as airship captain Rain, chasing down Veritas of the Dark, who’s out to destroy the crystals. Turn-based battles let you stagger enemies for extra turns, and the new Vision system, letting you channel classic Final Fantasy heroes’ abilities, offers flexibility similar to classic job systems. If you loved Octopath Traveler, this is the must-have game of the month.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort

Announced at the June Direct, this one’s exclusive to Switch 2. Alongside favorites like bowling, golf, tennis, table tennis, archery, and volleyball, you’ll find basketball, skateboarding, jet ski, and flying. There are also fun modes like thumb wrestling and jump rope. The game takes full advantage of Switch 2’s motion and pointer controls.

Peak

Aggro Crab and Landfall’s hit co-op climbing game, popular on Steam, finally comes to consoles. Up to four players become lost scouts climbing a mountain at the heart of an island. The mountain changes every 24 hours, and crossplay with Steam is available from day one.

Two New Horror Picks for Halloween

Just in time for Halloween, two new horror games have arrived. Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is the debut title from Atlantis Studio, founded by Ru Weerasuriya of Ready at Dawn. One player explores a dark house while the other guides them from a different perspective, making communication essential for survival.

My Friendly Neighborhood puts you in a building filled with puppets from a canceled kids’ show. You play as Gordon the handyman, and these puppets are anything but friendly. With its puzzle-driven, nonlinear gameplay, it’s perfect for fans of classic Resident Evil.

Switch 2 Editions and Free Upgrades

If you already own these games on Switch 1, here’s what you need to know:

• Hitman: Absolution: Feral Interactive’s Switch 2 Edition brings higher resolution, a performance mode targeting 60 FPS, and Joy-Con pointer support. Upgrade is free for a limited time for current Switch owners.
• Cult of the Lamb: Switch owners can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free.
• Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced: All three games, every DLC, and the new GX story mode in one package. Switch 1 owners can purchase the GX mode as a paid upgrade.
