Rhythm Heaven Groove arrives on Switch with 80 single-player minigames, the new Beatspell mode, and more. Discover all the details here.
Rhythm Heaven Groove launched on Nintendo Switch on July 2, 2026, marking the series’ first new entry since 2015’s Rhythm Heaven Megamix. Developed by Nintendo and TNX, the game is available for just $39.99 on Switch 1 and is fully compatible with Switch 2.
Rhythm Heaven Groove is a collection of rhythm-based minigames, just like previous titles in the series. It features 80 single-player and 30 multiplayer rhythm minigames. The characters and visuals are intentionally quirky: expect everything from a round character jumping through hoops, to someone wearing an umbrella on their head, a flying dog, and even a dinosaur that eats hearts. After you complete four minigames, a special “Remix” stage unlocks that combines them all, and then you move on to the next set.
For the first time in the series, Groove introduces Beatspell, an RPG-inspired mode. Here, players cast spells like Flame or Wave using rhythm-based button combos to defeat monsters with elemental weaknesses. You can carry three spells at once and need to strategize based on enemy resistances. Critics find the mode interesting but not as polished as the main game, though the series’ willingness to try new ideas is widely praised.
Multiplayer content is offered as a completely separate section from the main minigames and is substantial enough not to be overlooked. In addition to the main modes, you’ll unlock side modes as you earn medals, such as Score Attack (aim for the highest score), Rhythm Toy Box (a sandbox for experimenting), and Drum Lessons, where every button turns into a drum. There’s also a Sound Studio in the extras menu, where you can listen to every track you’ve unlocked.
The game includes a text-to-speech feature for visually impaired players, reading out on-screen text and audio descriptions. When enabled, the mascot Li'l Miss Reeds will narrate the menus, and you can turn this feature off anytime in the settings.
Rhythm Heaven Groove has received generally positive reviews on Metacritic, with 92 percent of critics recommending it on OpenCritic. Reviews praise its colorful presentation, catchy music, and gameplay that’s easy to pick up but challenging to master. Some critics note timing delays when playing on TV mode, suggesting handheld or tabletop mode offers a smoother experience.
