PS6 Launch Delayed: Gamers Will Have to Wait Longer!
Silicon Valley’s AI race could force gamers to put their PS6 dreams on hold. According to leaked Bloomberg reports, Sony may wait until 2029 to cut costs.

A major delay has just shaken the gaming world and become the hottest topic in tech news. Sony is now seriously considering postponing the launch of the PlayStation 6 (PS6) originally planned for 2027 to 2028 or even 2029 due to the global AI-driven chip and RAM crisis.
Dive into the details in my analysis inspired by PlayStation’s iconic vivid blue and metallic gray colors:
Is PlayStation 6 Stuck? The "RAMmageddon" Crisis!
According to reports from tech giants like Bloomberg and IGN dated February 16, 2026, the AI boom is about to claim an unexpected victim. Massive demand for memory chips from data center giants (Google, Amazon, OpenAI) is pushing game console production to the back of the line.
Why the Delay?
-
AI Monopoly: Memory titans like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have shifted their production from standard DRAM used in consoles to the much more profitable HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) for Nvidia’s AI chips.
-
Price Shock: Memory prices have soared by around 75% in just one month (RAMmageddon). If PS6 launches at current costs, its price tag could exceed $1,000.
-
Strategy Shift: Rather than cutting hardware specs (with ambitious leaks like 30GB GDDR7 RAM), Sony plans to extend the PS5 generation up to nine years, waiting for the market to cool down.
Are Other Consoles at Risk?
| Device | Status | Expected Impact |
| PlayStation 6 | Possible Delay to 2028-2029 | Could mark the longest console cycle (9 years). |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Price Hike in 2026 | Nintendo’s price could jump from $450 to over $500. |
| Next-Gen Xbox | 2027 Target Maintained | Microsoft may stick to schedule with a more "PC-based" approach. |
| Valve Steam Machine | Postponed | Indefinitely revised due to pricing and supply issues. |
