Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is blocked on Steam in 132 countries due to the mandatory PSN account requirement. Will this turn into another Helldivers 2 situation? All the details are here.
According to SteamDB data, the PC version of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is currently unavailable for purchase in 132 countries. The restriction stems from the game’s requirement for a mandatory PSN account for online mode and PS5 cross-play.
Developed by Arc System Works, this 4v4 team fighting game is set to launch on August 6, 2026 for PS5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) at a price of $59.99. The Steam store page states that both an internet connection and a PlayStation account are required for online gameplay. SteamDB’s regional data shows that this condition makes the game completely unavailable in 132 countries where PSN is not officially supported. Most African countries, except for Nigeria, Egypt, Pakistan, Vietnam, Cuba, Iran, Belarus, Jamaica, and South Africa, are included in this list.
The game features cross-play, allowing PS5 and PC players to match in the same lobbies, which requires a linked PSN account. However, it also offers content like story mode, stage mode, local multiplayer, and arcade mode, which don’t rely on Sony’s servers. This raises the main question from critics: if cross-play is optional, why is the entire game blocked?
This isn’t the first time Sony has faced such backlash. In 2024, Helldivers 2 launched on PC with a similar mandatory PSN account link, making the game unavailable in 177 countries. The reaction was so strong that Sony quickly reversed the policy. On PS5, players can bypass these restrictions by creating an account from a different region—though this is a gray area against the terms of service. For platforms like Steam, however, there’s no such workaround.
At the time of writing, Sony has not officially confirmed or commented on the restriction. With a month left until launch, the situation could still change. This debate comes just as Sony announced it will end physical disc production in 2028, adding to a wave of criticism for the company this week.
If you’re in a region where PSN is officially supported and planning to buy the game at launch, you can top up your account balance in advance no need to share your credit card details. Get ready for the open beta on July 24-26 or the full release on August 6 by using a PlayStation Store gift card from lotkeys.
The restrictions aren’t as strict on console as they are on PC for now, but creating an account in regions without official PSN support has always been an issue.
It’s unclear at this point. Sony reversed the policy after backlash with Helldivers 2, but there’s been no statement yet for Marvel Tokon.
The open beta will take place from July 24 to 26, 2026, and the full release is on August 6.
