Kaepora Gaebora debuts a brand new look in the Ocarina of Time remake, launching for Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Discover what’s changed and get all the latest details.
In the Ocarina of Time remake, Kaepora Gaebora—the wise owl who guides Link—has been revealed with a fresh new design. Game Rant describes this change as a “glow-up,” drawing parallels to the Ganondorf update in Tears of the Kingdom.
According to Foro3D, the owl now has softer eyes and a more welcoming expression, leaving behind the stern look of the 1998 original. The same source highlights gentler shading, less glare in the eyes, and feathers modeled with smoother curves.
The character still feels familiar: his feathers, stance, and guiding presence in Hyrule remain unchanged.

The remake’s “stylized realism” approach has divided fans. According to a roundup on the game’s Wikipedia page, Polygon found some character models unsettling, while GameSpot described young Link and Zelda as “uncanny.” There’s also praise for the environmental design. The owl’s warmer face seems like a response to these criticisms.
The real test will be seeing the characters in motion. A model that looks great in a static render might feel different during long dialogues and talking animations—especially since Kaepora Gaebora is known for his lengthy speeches.
If you plan to grab the game on Switch 2’s eShop on November 5, make sure your account funds are ready. A Nintendo eShop gift card is a quick and easy way to top up. Expect more design reveals and comparisons as launch day approaches.
