Rockstar’s 26-minute Netflix showcase reveals new details about GTA 6, from open-world activities and combat to story, characters, and more.
After years of anticipation, Rockstar has finally pulled back the curtain on GTA 6 gameplay. The Netflix exclusive Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look delivered a 26-minute showcase featuring open-world activities, combat, story missions, characters, and vehicles. Here are the key highlights from the reveal.
GTA 6 seems to have something for both dog lovers and those less fond of them. A button prompt on screen showed that you can not only pet dogs you encounter, but also scold them if you choose.
The six-star Wanted system, absent in GTA 5, is making a return in GTA 6. While the exact mechanics aren’t fully revealed, crimes you commit are now displayed as icons beneath the stars.
If you’ve played GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2, this won’t surprise you: finishing GTA 6 could take a while. Rob Nelson from Rockstar North mentioned that his own playthrough, focusing on the main story and related optional content, took about 80 hours.
Red Dead Redemption 2 already featured a huge map, but GTA 6’s world is three times larger.
At the heart of GTA 6’s story is the relationship between Lucia and Jason. The pair don’t have to be romantically involved; players can choose to keep things platonic. Still, their partnership is crucial to the narrative.
Alongside the updated Wanted system, GTA 6 introduces a Criminal Profile system. This tracks your actions over time—such as whether you use unnecessary violence during missions—and unlike Wanted stars, it doesn’t reset.
Some viewers compared Jason’s speaking style to Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises, noting that his voice can be a bit hard to understand at times.
As with previous Grand Theft Auto games, GTA 6 will feature plenty of satire and social commentary, but won’t directly reference real-life political figures or events. So, don’t expect nods to Donald Trump or the COVID-19 pandemic.
The single-player release coming in November will not feature any microtransactions. Rockstar also confirmed that no generative AI was used in the game’s development.
According to Rockstar, GTA 6’s map is three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s.
The single-player version launching in November will not include microtransactions.
Rob Nelson from Rockstar North said his own playthrough took about 80 hours.
