Overcrowding in September due to GTA 6 has officially pushed Valor Mortis to October.
As the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI approaches on November 19, 2026, the entire gaming industry is bracing for impact. Nearly every publisher is scrambling to avoid Rockstar Games’ massive storm by crowding their releases into September and October, making this one of the most packed fall gaming calendars ever.
The first studio to blink in this release onslaught has now been revealed. The first-person Soulslike title Valor Mortis, which made an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, has officially been postponed to help it stand out from the September chaos and give gamers’ wallets a much-needed break.
The developer announced the calendar change, stating that "September is absolutely packed with incredible-looking games." Here’s the revised schedule:
| Game Title | Original Release Date | New Release Date | Reason for Delay |
| Valor Mortis | September 24, 2026 | October 13, 2026 | Major releases on the same day and GTA 6 hype |
Lyrical Games, the publisher of Valor Mortis, originally picked September 24 for the Xbox reveal, thinking it was a safe, empty slot. But then, during Sony’s State of Play, Remedy’s Control Resonant and Konami’s Silent Hill: Townfall were both announced for the exact same date. With three major dark and suspenseful games launching at once, the studio decided to step back.
Other big names trying to dodge the GTA 6 wave in November have packed September’s lineup, putting serious strain on gamers’ budgets:
September 3: The Blood of Dawnwalker (the latest RPG from former CDPR developers)
September 8: Halloween (4v1 Asymmetric Horror)
September 15: Marvel's Wolverine (Insomniac Games’ big PS5 exclusive)
September 17: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV
September 24: Control Resonant & Silent Hill: Townfall
September 29: Minecraft Dungeons II
The Valor Mortis team announced the delay on social media with a humorous GIF of a character getting hilariously beaten up, captioned "Us, trying to find a free day in Fall 2026". While the game is now set for October 13, October itself is stacked with giants like Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade Zero. Still, the studio sees this extra 19 days as a chance to polish the game and deliver a flawless launch on Game Pass from day one.
