Silicon Valley's AI race could push PS6 dreams further away for gamers. According to leaked Bloomberg reports, Sony may wait until 2029 to manage costs.
A game-changing delay has just shaken up the tech world. Sony is now seriously considering pushing back the PlayStation 6 (PS6) launch, originally planned for 2027, to 2028 or even 2029 due to the ongoing global AI-driven chip and RAM crisis.
Check out my detailed analysis, inspired by PlayStation’s signature electric blue and metallic grey hues, for all the details:
According to reports from Bloomberg and IGN dated 16 February 2026, the AI boom in the tech world is causing unexpected setbacks. Major data centers (Google, Amazon, OpenAI) are consuming massive amounts of memory chips, pushing game console production to the back of the line.
AI Monopoly: Memory giants like Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have shifted their production from standard DRAM (used in consoles) to the much more profitable HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) for Nvidia’s AI chips.
Price Shock: Memory prices have surged by around 75% in just one month (the so-called RAMmageddon). If PS6 launches at these costs, its price tag could exceed 1,000 dollars.
Strategy Shift: Instead of cutting back on hardware specs (such as the rumored 30GB GDDR7 RAM), Sony is planning to extend the PS5 generation’s lifespan up to 9 years, waiting for the market to stabilize.
| Device | Status | Expected Impact |
| PlayStation 6 | Postponement to 2028-2029 | Could mark the longest console cycle (9 years). |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Price Hike in 2026 | Expected to jump from 450 to over 500 dollars. |
| Next-Gen Xbox | 2027 Launch Still on Track | Microsoft may stay on schedule thanks to a more "PC-centric" strategy. |
| Valve Steam Machine | Postponed | Indefinitely revised due to pricing and stock issues. |
